What is RoHS?
Directive 2002/95/EC is the formal term for “the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment” and it applies to lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB (polybrominated biphenyl) and PDPE (polybrominated diphenyl ether). In order to be in compliance with the EU RoHS legislation by the July 1, 2006 deadline all of these aforementioned substances must be nonexistent, or within the maximum concentration values (MCV’s), in any of the products containing electrical or electronic equipment that are to be sold within the European Union.
Some people ask why we have to be in compliance when their parts are not being shipping to Europe, if the final product is destined for Europe then all parts within the final product need to be compliant.
Therefore, it has been Electro Static Technology-ITW’s goal to be in full compliance by the effective date. Through the cooperation of our vendors and independent testing we are well within the requirements of Directive 2002/95/EC, and have been since 2004.
